*About us*

The “Spirit of Life” motto is “Serving senior citizens with respect, dignity, love and joy.”   My name is Pat Rico, and I am the Spirit of Life Founder and President. This website is dedicated to my parents, relatives and friends who have already lived through their senior years, as well as to those seniors who are presently facing challenges and issues.

Mission Statement:
To enhance the “Spirit of Life” of every senior citizen, and their caregivers.

Background:

My sister, Claire, and I learned from the example of our parents what it meant to “Honor thy Parents”. We saw first-hand as they each cared unconditionally for our grandparents.

As the two of us took on the role of caregivers for our mother and father we entered an unknown territory.  Our father’s heart disease, and our mother’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease not only altered their lives, but it changed our lives as well.

What we learned the hard way, through experiencing all the difficulties, and challenges of our parents’ last years, we have decided to share. We hope it will help those caring for senior citizens.  Therefore, what you read in this website is a compilation of life’s lessons accompanied with research.

Lastly, please allow me to share this. Many years before my parents passed away, my dad, Tom, told me to put up a “shingle” .  He wanted me to advertise my services. I like to think he knew all along that my  caring passionately about senior care, and assisting with funerals would eventually become another mission in my life. Today, I believe that the ”Spirit of Life”  website has become my “shingle”.

Forever in our hearts.

Mary & Tom Rico

The “Spirit of Life” symbol.

The lotus flower starts as a small flower down at the bottom of a pond in the mud and muck. It slowly grows up towards the water’s surface continually moving towards the light. Once it comes to the surface of the water the lotus flower begins to blossom and turn into a beautiful flower.

Lotus as a flower symbolizes the journey and advancement of the soul through the realization of the material world to be one with the supreme soul of  purity and divine birth. Because it has buds, blossoms and seed pods simultaneously on the same plant, it represents the past, present and future.
